DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

 

ALUMNI

There is a very active registered Alumni ‘MAPS’ in the Department. MAPS together with the Department is conducting a number of programmes every year. There is a seven-member executive body for MAPS and every year 3 to 4 Executive meetings are conducted. The General body meeting of MAPS, which is a grand event, is held on the second saturday of December, every year. MAPS together with the Department has been organizing ‘Dr. Sathy Menon Memorial Technical Lecture’ from 2014 onwards. In addition to that, MAPS gives endowments to students. Fanny Pallan Endowments are given to top performing UG students and ‘Sathy Menon Endowments’ are awarded to top scoring PG students.

    2013-14

    General Body meeting of Physics Alumni was conducted on 4th January 2014. Prof. P.S.Sobhen delivered a lecture on ' New Technologies and Prospects' on the day. The Fanny Pallan Endowment Awards were given to top scoring UnderGraduate students.

    2014-15

    Physics Alumni MAPS annual general body meet was held on 13 December 2014 . The first Dr. Sathy Menon Memorial Technical Lecture 'Applications of Linear Accelerators' was given by Dr. Ravi A Y Kumar, Scientist, Institute of Plasma Research, Gujarath. Fanny Pallan Endowments were given to best UG Students and Sathy Menon Memorial Endowments were distributed to outstanding PG students.

    2015-16

    Physics Alumni MAPS annual general body meet was held on 12 December 2015 . The second Dr. Sathy Menon Memorial Technical Lecture 'nanophotonics: Materials and Applications' was given by Dr. Reji Philip, Scientist, Raman Research Institute, Bangalore. Fanny Pallan Endowments  were distributed to outstanding UG students and Sathy Menon Memorial Endowments were distributed to outstanding PG students. .  An orientation programme 'Make it Happen'  for second and third year B Sc Students was conducted by Dr M R. SanthaDevi, Retired Scientist, DRDO who is the Vice President of Physics Alumni.

    2016-17

    Physics Alumni Association MAPS conducted an Alumni reunion on 10th December 2016. The third  Dr Sathi Menon Memorial Technical Lecture 'Electromagnetic theory and its applications' was done by Prof V P N Nampoori, organised by Alumni association of the department. Fany Pallan Endowments were presented to UG students and Sathy Menon memorial endowments were presented to PG students. The function also falicitated those students who qualified NET/ JRF exams.

    2017-18

    Physics Alumni Association MAPS conducted an Alumni reunion on 9th December 2017. The Fourth Dr. Sathy Menon Memorial Technical Lecture ' Introduction to Space Technology' by Shaneeth M, Dy.Head, Energy Sytems Division, VSSC, ISRO,TVM was conducted.  Career development talk by Prof P S Sobhen, was organised by Alumni Physics . Fany Pallan Endowments were presented to UG students and Sathy Menon memorial endowments were presented to PG students. The function also felicitated those students who qualified NET/ JRF exams.

    Physics Alumni Association MAPS conducted an Alumni reunion on 8th December 2018. The Fifth Dr. Sathy Menon Memorial Technical Lecture on ' Airborne Surveylance' by Dr. Rajalakshmi Menon, Outstanding Scientist, LRDE, Bangalore  was conducted on 7th December at 2 pm.  Fany Pallan Endowments were presented to UG top students and Sathy Menon memorial endowments were presented to PG top students. The function also felicitated Dr. E M Mohammed on receiving position of Emeretus Scientist from KSCSTE. MAPS conducted NET coaching classes to PG students of the Department. MAPS also organized a motivation class conducted by Dr. Siju Thomas, Behavioural Therapist and Student Counsellor, for final year B Sc Students on 31 August 2018 at 2 PM,

    2019-20

    Physics Alumni Association MAPS conducted an Alumni reunion on 14 th December 2019. The Fifth Dr. Sathy Menon Memorial Technical Lecture on ' Physics on Forensic Science' by Smt. Susan Antony, Assistant Director, Forensic Science Laboratory, Kerala Police Dept.  was conducted on 14 th December at 10 am.  Fany Pallan Endowments were presented to UG top students and Sathy Menon memorial endowments were presented to PG top students. MAPS in association with the Department of Physics conducted the First Hawking Memorial Lecture. The first lecture was done by MAPS president , P S SOBHEN, Retired Associate Professor Dept of Phyics, Maharajas College, on 'Introduction to black holes'.

    Physics Alumni Association MAPS conducted an Alumni reunion (online) on 12 th December 2020. The Sixth Dr. Sathy Menon Memorial Technical Lecture on 'The Call of Ocean; by Smt. Santhi Krishnan, Research Scholar, National Institute of Oceanography,  was conducted on 12 th December at 5.30 pm.  Fany Pallan Endowments were presented to top scoring UG  students and Sathy Menon memorial endowments were presented to best scoring PG students. MAPS in association with the Department of Physics conducted online Lectures on ' On some beautiful Problems in Physics' by Dr N Shaji, Adjunct Faculty, CUSAT and 'On Hunting for Neutrinos by Manosh T M, Research Scholar, CUSAT.
