DEPARTMENT OF SANSKRIT

 

 

 

OVERVIEW

       Department of Sanskrit started U.G Course in Sanskrit General in 1958 and P.G course in 1972. The Course was started as a result of the Yeoman service put in by Dr. N. V. Malliayya who has then HOD of Sanskrit Dept. In 1991 this department was recognised as a Research Centre under the M.G University. Former HoDs include eminent scholars like M.S. Menon who has a number of books in Sanskrit, Malayalam, History to his credit, Prof. Puthor R. Balakrishnan, who later served as member of the Ombudsman, Prof. K Bharathy, Prof. M.A Suseela, Prof. P. A Sahrsranaman etc.. were served as Head of the Department of Sanskrit.

     We could publish a book on Scientific Literature in Sanskrit in 2011. Several programmes which were of considerable use to the students of the college were conducted by the department. One of the remarkable activity is the four day National Seminar on Theatre Traditions. The Seminar sought to highlight the abiding relevance of the theatre traditions for the entire humanity, especially for students.
