OVERVIEW

 

Department of Physical Education, Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam is one of the key departments frequently and successfully intervening and interfering the curriculum by imparting physical and mental education to the students.  By the sheer dint of merit, hardworking and imparting systematic training, the Department is able to establish a prominent place in the sports map of the country.

The history of the Department begins in 1875 when, a visionary of Thottekkat Family donated 20 Acres of land in the heart of the City of Cochin to the College for the exclusive use of the sports and allied activities of the college.   Over the years, under the leadership of a number luminaries worked with the Department, the Department excelled in the field of physical education and presently the department enjoys the position as the leader of all sports and games activities in the Metro City of Cochin.

In the Maharaja’s College Ground was bestowed with a Synthetic Track, the first of its kind in the State of Kerala, which was a turning point in the sport related activities of the college.  The Department has made arrangements with various Associations to give effective and proper coaching and guidelines to the students as well as the persons interested in the field in the Metro city. We have an International Football field and various levels of Football Tournament and practices are taking place in the ground.
