An Intensive UGC- NET&JRF coaching program was organised by the Research Forum of the Department of English, Maharaja's College, Ernakulam from 4th of August, 2025 to 13th August, 2025. The aim of the program was to provide students of the department effective guidance and orientation to successfully attempt the UGC NET and JRF exam thereby helping them in their academic careers. The free coaching classes were conducted bythe research scholars of the Department of English, Maharaja’s College who have cleared the UGC- NET&JRF examination. The sessions were conducted after class hours from 3:30pm to 4:30pm and were attended by students from the department. The first session of the program was held on 4th of August, 2025 by Ms. Maya Purushothaman. The speaker gave an intensive introduction to the UGC NET&JRF exam providing personal insights and practical solutions to tackle the syllabus and question papers. She provided a detailed breakdown of the first paper of the exam and gave a module wise analysis of previous year's questions. The second session was conducted by Ms.Anula on 5th August, 2025. She dealt with Victorian literature from the second paper of the exam and shared her insights and experiences on clearing the JRF exam with a special focus on paper 2. The third session of the program was conducted by Mr. Jimmy John on 6th of August, 2025. He gave a detailed introduction to the second paper of the exam providing the students with a detailed booklist for preparation. He also introduced various digital resources like online quizzes to aid the students in preparation. Strategies for time management and effective covering of syllabus was also discussed. The fourth session was conducted by Mr. Sharath on 7th of August, 2025. He shared his personal experiences and insights about clearing the JRF exam and elaborated on the techniques he used to prepare for the exam. His experiences helped the students to understand the importance of smart study and smart work in the preparation for competitive exams. The session also included a discussion of previous years’ question papers, with special emphasis on 19th-century British literature. The fifth session of the program was conducted on 8th August, 2025 by Dr. Priya Jose K., Professor and Research guide, Department of English, Maharaja's College. She held an extensive doubt clearing Q&A session in which students raised their queries regarding the benefits of NET and JRF in their academic careers. She also introduced the students to the nuances and possibilities of research in contemporary academia. The sixth session was conducted by Mrs. Joshila Catherine C.J. on 11th August, 2025. She discussed the first module of paper 2 titled Drama. She elaborated on the subtopics of the module such as Indian, American, British and other world dramas. The seventh session of the program was taken by Mr. Sharath on 12th August, 2025 as sequel to his first session. He conducted an interactive session including activities such as ‘Who am I?’ in which clues about celebrated authors or characters were given for students to guess their identity. The eighth and last session of the program was conducted by Ms. AmnaFathima on 13th August, 2025. She engaged the students in paper 2 and shared the strategies required to excel in the paper. She also cleared the doubts raised by the students on various aspects of the exam. The students attended all the classes with great enthusiasm and curiosity making the program a grand success. The program held with a mission mode focusing on generating employable, skilled and motivated academicians by imparting value addition to education is a testament to the 150 years of legacy of Maharaja's College which has a long tradition of stellar academicians like Professor M.K. Sanu.
