Department History 

P.G & Research Department of Hindi in Maharaja’s College is an esteemed one in Kerala State.  Hence the Govt. of Kerala has  declared  the department as Centre of Excellence . The Department provides both U.G. and P.G Courses in Hindi. The BA Course in Hindi was first introduced in 1951, when Prof. P.  Lakshmikutty  Amma was the Head of  the Department .   The M.A Course in Hindi was started in 1959 under the Headship of Prof.  A.Chandrahasan, a veteran scholar in Hindi Language   and Literature.

         Many eminent Scholars like Dr. V. Govinda Shenoy,  Dr. H.Parameswaran,Prof. V. Hrishikesan Thampi and  other teachers served this Department from time to  time.

        The Department celebrated GOLDEN JUBILEE in the year 2009-2010. We did different kinds of programmes, such as Guruvandanam , National Seminars ,Literary  competitions , Cultural  programmes ,in connection with Golden Jubilee Celebrations throughout the year.  This can be marked as a milestone in the history of the development of Hindi Department.

         Another remarkable prestige for our department is that, till 1967 the Department of Hindi, of CUSAT (Cochin University of Science and Technology) was functioning in Govt. Maharaja’s College Campus.  It was shifted to Thrikkakkara in 1967 only.

Research centre  Established in 1993,  as a research centre under Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam, Post Graduate and Research Department of Hindi is one of the oldest and reputed department of our college. Our view is to promote research interest both among the students and teachers. At present, there are currently 16 teachers in this category as Supervising Guides and from that 7 are our faculty members. Centre has produced 20 PhDs and also has more than 50 research publications in leading national & International journals and conference proceedings during this period. There are 25 full-time research scholars and 8 part-time researchers doing their research here.
